Luxury brands sell goods or services that are privileged, expensive and sought after. While luxury goods are often made from high-quality materials, their cost far exceeds the materials and effort required to produce them. The high cost of goods from luxury brands reflects a premium that consumers of means are willing to pay to own the luxury label.

What are Luxury Fashion Brands?

Luxury fashion brands offer high quality, fashionable clothing, shoes and accessories at an affordable price. Some famous luxury fashion brands include Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Hermes and Salvatore Ferragamo's.

Exclusive luxury fashion brands

Here are some of the most exclusive and upscale fashion brands today. What sets them apart from one another?

Louis Vuitton

Established in Paris in 1854, French fashion house Louis Vuitton has become one of the most valued brands in the world. A leader in the luxury industry, known for its iconic LV monogram and Damier pattern, the company is part of the largest fashion group in the world, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton's.

Louis Vuitton designs high-end luggage and handbags for travelers who want something special. They also offer a wide range of unique ready-to wear clothing for both men and women at prices ranging from $5,000 to $30,000.

Dolce & Gabbana

For Italian fashion, the 1980s was a landmark year when Domingo Dolce and Stefano Gabbana founded Dolce & Gabanna in a small town near Milan. From leatherette suits to the bodysuit worn by Kim Kardashian on her Instagram account, the company is best know for sensual, playful and powerful women's clothes, including vibrant dresses inspired by the warmth of Sicily.

Men also have their choice of bold patterns, including buttoned shirts and double-breasted jackets made with patchworks, as well as $400,000 double-breast coats, $10,000 cashmere coats, and $4,000 cargo pants with old-fashioned embroidery.

Givenchy

The most famous Givenchy made by Audrey Hepburn was her black dress from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It reflected the profound influence Givenchy had on luxury fashion since he launched his Parisian brand in the 1950s. His designs continue to be stylish and playful for women, including little denim dresses and asymmetric pleated skirts. For men’s and womenswear, the brand has given traditional suits a fun and edgy spin by adding lockable buttons.

Balenciaga

It was in the 1950s when Cristóbal Balenciaga established the first boutique in San Sebastián, Spain, but it wasn't until the 1960s when he made his name known by creating distinctive and innovative designs for women's dresses.

Today, some of the brand's most distinctive products include their shoes, which include Speed sneakers that have a knit upper component and are priced above $800. They also shine with collaborations. For example, they collaborated with Crocs to create a Crocs boot and an equally quirky Crocs Madame shoe. Both retail for $625.

Bottega Veneta

You can tell that Bottega Veneta makes some of its best-known items by the quality of their materials and the attention paid to every detail. For example, you can tell that Bottegaveneta made these bags because of the way they're constructed with the signature Intrecciata weave. Since 1966, Bottega Venetahas become known for the quality of its clothing and accessories, ranging from prints to men's calf-hair pants worth thousands of dollars.

Salvatore Ferragamo

The Salvatore Fergamomo brand was founded by an innovative shoe designer who started out selling shoes in Florence in the late 20s. His designs were worn by some of the most famous people in Hollywood, including Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepworth, and others. Today, the brand offers beautiful pumps and ballet flats, as well as luxurious handbags, including the Trifolio collection, which features a clean design and rich colors.

Comme des Garcons

Rei Kawakubo founded Comme des Garçons in 1969 in Tokyo, Japan, and her designs became known for embodying avant garde fashion, with many her wild creations looking like dynamic sculptures.

You can buy ready-to-wear clothes from Comme des Garçons at several locations worldwide, including Nordstrom and Net-A-Porter. These include fringe jackets, mini dresses made of taffeta fabric, and wool sweaters featuring the brand’s “Play” logo, which is a stylized heart with two eyes.
